While I realize this might not be up the colloquial alley of everyone here, I still figured I'd post a little blurb about my friend Phyllis.  She's a chick I know from high school, and she's been spending this past year working on an album.  Within the past few months, she started a page on garageband.com.  For those of unfamiliar with that site, its just a place where aspiring musical artists can post songs that they've done and have people listen to them.

Anyway, you can listen to her stuff here.  Keep in mind its very mid-90's alternative chick rock, like Alannis Moirsette or Sarah McLachlan or something along those lines, but it is very good.  I love that I know insantely talented people.

Carly, I think it's pretty obvious about how much of an asshole I can be in my opinions of other people's music.

I was fully prepared to be an asshole and say "she's too whiney and stupid and she should get back in the kitchen." I almost didn't listen.

I was glad I did. I really do not like her style of music, but the proficiency at which she performs it and the quality of her recordings have left me in awe. I hope she gets a record deal, as there are some lesbians sitting in a coffee house right now that have run out of Tori Amos cd's and need some good acoustic song writing, stat!

As insincere as that sounded, it was totally sincere. Wish her the best of luck for me.

Phyll already promised me an autographed copy of her CD, hehe.

She is quite the cool person. And she hangs around with other cool people.

Honestly, I think that's what I like most about her.  Even tho I do like the style, its more the actual quality of her music which impresses me.  She obviously has talent, which is a lot more than can be said for most of the people on the radio right now.  And really, the world can always use some more angsty chick rock.

I listened to the first song on the playlist, and I thought it was pretty good. Its definitely not my style (my knowledge on this style of music begins and ends with Sarah McLachlin's song "Building a Mystery") but I thought it was decent. I'd like to see how this album of her's turns out.

I think the coolest song she has uploaded is Dreamers.  It might appeal more to the people here stylistcally.
