If this was reversed, say an ad advocating Pro-Choice, I doubt it would have been deemed "Acceptable". I know these articles touch on that, but I would love to see Planned Parenthood or another organization actually fund a rebuttal. I seriously hope thats what they're now focusing their efforts on. Its absolutely ridiculous that they'd show something like this during the fucking Super Bowl. I'm sorry, but a large demographic(young, drunken college students) watching are probably those very individuals that will need unbiased counseling on this sort of thing in the future. Edit: And certainly don't need to feel guilty for any decision they make if the issue should arise! That is my serious problem with the choose life side to this argument. I completely understand personal aversion to abortion, of course its an unpleasant subject and probably pretty unpleasant in practice also, but how DARE you try to make someone else feel less than for their already incredibly difficult choice. PROLIFERS.

I feel like a dick pointing out the inherent douchiness of the ad. It's Heisman winning quarterback Tim Tebow and his mom talking her about her decision not to abort him despite the recommendation by medical professionals. There really seems to be a kind of "I-Didn't-Abort-My-Baby-And-Look-How-Amazing-He-Turned-Out" vibe to that description.

I can't even speak intelligently about things like this - I get way too worked up and I take it way too personally. I'll just suffice it to say that I'm deeply troubled by the amount of people that these idiots will be able to reach with their message based on religious prejudice, ignorance, and hate. Too many people will see this and be influenced by it, and potentially not have the opportunity to weigh that message against other options, and make the choice that's right for them. I find this abhorrent.

I think the hate really comes from ignorance. I used to be pro-life, and it wasn't because of religion or because I hated anybody. I was just ignorant and hadn't thought about the whole issue. What people generally don't understand is that making abortion illegal won't make it stop happening; it will just make the practice itself uglier, because it needs to be performed illegally. There are a lot of pro-lifers who think that everyone who is for legalized abortion wants to murder babies left and right, indiscriminately, because they're just fetuses, not people, yeehaw, whatever. They think that making abortion illegal will protect babies like Tim Tebow, who ironically enough was born because his mother chose not to abort him. While a big, scary law might hypothetically protect some unborn babies, because the mothers are afraid of the big, scary government, there's no way to hide from the reality of what a pro-life mandate would actually do: punish women who just had to make the most difficult decision of their lives.

I couldn't have said it more eloquently myself, David. My point is exactly that this is just furthering the problem of only one view point influencing the opinion of the public. Unfortunately, the case is often in our country that the people who stand on the just side of the fight are often the one's without the funding to make their message heard to a large, national audience. The whole situation just makes me angry. I'm not really angry at CBS, and I'm not even REALLY angry at Focus on Family, since they have a right to make their views known. It just makes me angry that it is not as easy for people to be educated in this country as it is for them to be lied to or misled. That puts us all at a disadvantage.

I am very much like Carly when it comes to this issue. I go rabid, I see red, I basically flip my shit because that is EXACTLY the issue. All they're going to do is force women to further hurt and endanger themselves while strapping them with some stupid stigma because conservative rich men in power think god is VERY DISAPPOINTED in someone having the right to choose. FUUUCK.

Just FYI, let me tell you a little bit about Tim Tebow. His dad is a minister, which has resulted in Tim being almost obnoxiously religious. During the off season Tim spends most of his time in Africa teaching impoverished people about God. And you know those little black lines football players have under their eyes? Every game he writes bible passages on them ("John 3:17" or whatever). He is also a proud, self-proclaimed virgin, despite dating this: Also Florida loves him so much that they just couldn't wait to build a statue of him at the end of his junior year outside of the stadium, even though he was 20 years old and had his whole senior year left to play. Most experts think he probably won't do very well in the NFL (Professional football is a lot quicker and harder hitting than college, and much of Tebow's strength is his ability to avoid tacklers and run through linemen - something he simply won't be able to do when they are 300+ pounds) but it is highly expected that a team who has a dwindling fanbase might pick him up simply for the revenue he would generate.

CBS YOU HYPOCRITICAL FUCKTWATS. After days of deliberations on whether to run a controversial Super Bowl ad from gay dating site ManCrunch.com, CBS has not yet reached a decision. The 30-second spot shows two men excitedly watching the game, before their hands brush as they both reach into a bowl of chips. Suddenly, the two begin making out, much to the shock of a guy sitting close by. According to a rep for the dating site, which operates under the slogan “Where Many Many Many Men Come Out to Play,” the ad was submitted on Monday, January 18th. When the site followed up on the status of the ad on Friday, January 22nd, they were told by CBS that “the spot hadn’t been officially approved yet" by network standards, and that "all the Super Bowl spots were sold out.”“ManCrunch requested the spot get reviewed anyway just in case another advertiser drops out and a spot becomes available, as often happens, and CBS agreed,” added the site’s rep. ManCrunch officials said they believe CBS has no intention of airing a commercial for their gay dating service, "but do not want to officially ‘reject’ the spot out of fear there may be a backlash from gay advocacy groups.” However, a representative from the network told Pop Tarts that advertising spots were still open, and was unsure where that comment originated.“The ad is still under review, the process takes a little while,” a rep from CBS said. “We still have a lot of ads we have yet to review.” ManCrunch’s submission is not the only controversial ad CBS has had to review this year. On Wednesday, the network announced that they had approved a pro-life commercial starring Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, funded by the conservative Christian group Focus on the Family, to air during the game. “CBS’s recent decision to air an anti-choice advertisement during Super Bowl XLIV was outrageous,” a rep from advocacy group The Women’s Media Center said. “Even worse is the network’s about face from its own policy of rejecting controversial Super Bowl ads. "The Women’s Media Center and organizations dedicated to reproductive rights, tolerance, and social justice, are urging the network to immediately cancel this ad.” CBS is reportedly standing by their decision, and producers said they would consider accepting any other "responsibly produced" advocacy ads for broadcast.

I dunno, I think they are real. Now I'm no big city lawyer... ...but gravity certainly has an effect on em. The 30-second spot shows two men excitedly watching the game, before their hands brush as they both reach into a bowl of chips. Suddenly, the two begin making out, much to the shock of a guy sitting close by.
Hahahahaha this owns so hard. Seriously, the whole country would be able to hear the simultaneous screams of 10 million southern/midwestern/texan men who thought they were just in for some good ol fashion 'merican football.

If CBS chooses to air the pro life ad I will not watch the super-bowl. At all. In any part.
ps, ethan, I'm disturbed by your reference to lebow's GF as 'this'. Not cool.

Okay so NOW I'm angry at CBS. What makes me even angrier is they own KDKA, the Pittsburgh affiliate that airs all the Steeler's games. Can't the Rooney's do something about this? I know they have to be against this bullshit! Baaaaaaaah. Stupid everything.
Oh and Ethan there is no way in all of Heaven, Earth and Hell that those things are real. Gravity would have an effect on anything that large and ridiculous. It's simple physics.

Here's a link to the feedback form on CBS.com. I'm sure they probably don't take this kind of thing very seriously, but if you want to say something and maybe have them hear it, this is certainly a place to do it: http://www.cbs.com/info/user_services/fb_global_form.php

Dan Rooney is a rich old white Irish catholic. I've got a bad feeling about what his stance on abortion is

Dan Rooney is a rich old white Irish catholic. I've got a bad feeling about what his stance on abortion is But his stance on everything else is so progressive and liberal and awesome! He loves black people! And the gays! Well...maybe the gays, I'm not sure, but definitely black people! Rick old white Irish catholics don't love black people! So maybe he does support a woman's right to choose! Just maybe!
