Just finished watching it in IMAX, and I gotta say that I really enjoyed it, it was one hell of a ride

I highly recommend seeing it in theaters, the commercials simply do not do it justice

Saw it last night. Definitely worth seeing. I did have a few complaints, but it's a pretty fun action movie.

Solid action movie, but the visuals put it over the top. Saw it in 3D and can't imagine doing it any other way.

The motion capture in particular was pretty impressive.  As one who works with animators closely from time to time, the facial expression stuff is pretty damn revolutionary as far as the entertainment industry goes.  Such subtlety!

And considering it is past breaking even, as far as box office profits go a sequel is pretty much garunteed. Not sure how I feel about that, though Cameron has a knack for doing excellent sequels.

I want it. I want it bad. I didn't think the movie was amazing story-wise, but I was completely sold on the lifeforms and world Cameron was pitching. I found myself so interested in all the daily tribe activities and really wanted to see more of what Jake had to go through. I'd completely eat up a sequel if we got to look deeper into na'vi life.

Also thirding the "pay to go see it in 3D you won't be disappointed and you kind of need to" sentiments.

Yeah but I feel like one of the movie's biggest flaws is that I can't counterbalance the expense of seeing it again vs the movie as a whole. I liked it a lot, but not enough to shell out more money for the same movie.

spoilers...?

Okay, I saw it. Definitely worth seeing in 3D. Don't know if I could justify buying it on DVD though. I was expecting Fern Gully 3D, and I got it. But it was chock-full of all that kickass Cameron shit that's in all of his other movies, so I didn't mind so much that I didn't really care about or sympathize with any of the characters. It also didn't bother me too terribly that the NA'Vi were almost Gungan-like in their depiction of an alien race that's blatantly based on another, real race, that wears head-dresses and rides horses and wears war paint. Or the fact that the bad guys were after a mineral that was called "Unobtainium." None of these things mattered because the 3D was so mesmerizing.

Just thought I would mention that I saw it, finally, this weekend. I enjoyed it, thoroughly. The 3-D was fantastic and at least once or twice I found myself wanting to swat things out of my field of vision before realizing they were part of the movie and not ACTUAL bugs or particles of dust floating around in the movie theatre. The attention to detail was incredible, and it was clear that James Cameron loved every single frame of this film as if it were his own flesh and blood.

I just wish he had loved the script and character development that much, because good lord what hackneyed crap. The movie was basically every Hollywood cliche and cinematic trope ever, all mashed together in some bland congealed muck, then smeared on some paper to make up the entirety of the script and plot. It also really bugged me that the Na'vi were so obviously all played by black people, but I think that's just me railing against such an easily identifiable ethnicity in what is supposed to be an alien race. All that being said, I feel Avatar was the very best presentation of said cliche's ever put out for the viewing public's pleasure. Will I buy this movie? Not a chance in hell. Do I want to pay more money to see it again, this time in Imax, for the 3D lovelies? Absolutely. Did I enjoy the movie? Against all odds - yes.

And for the record - I actually really liked the way the Na'vi looked. But I like anime.
