Weird, thought M. Night Shyamalan was supposed to be directing that. Either way....eh?

M. Night Shyamalan is directing Avatar: The Last Airbender, a live-action movie based on the animated Nickolodeon TV show. This is James Cameron's project Avatar, which is supposed to be a 3D action movie.

They are distinct and different movies written and directed by different people with different people playing different roles. They are similarly named, but that's it. I really, uh, don't know how to explain it any better.

M. Night Shyamalan's movie is technically titled The Last Airbender. It's preview: http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi4008247833/

Quote
The story follows the adventures of Aang, a ten year old successor to a long line of Avatars, who must put his childhood ways aside and stop the Fire Nation from enslaving the Water, Earth and Air nations.

Avatar, by James Cameron and company, is this movie: http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi2804482585/

Quote
Jake Sully is a paraplegic war veteran who is brought to the planet Pandora to participate in a program designed to help him walk again. The program introduces him to his avatar, a creature whose genetics are half human and half Na'vi, a sentient humanoid race who inhabit Pandora. In time, Jake will find himself in the middle of an escalating conflict between the two races.

lol

But seriously, I dunno, I just assumed they were the same thing because they had similiar enough names and well...that James Cameron flick looks pretty fuckin anime-ie, and okay I know the other one isn't technically an anime because its an American made show, but it sure as shit looks like one. I had no idea until this very thread they were in fact, two different movies. That's all. Also my care level is like, zero, for both, so whatever.

I'm interested to see how this does.  It was ridiculously hyped, and Cameron spent A LOT of money making it, but the general consensus (from the trailers, at least) seems to be that it looks totally lame.

I agree. I am throughly unimpressed by the cg stuff too, and just don't like the style. When I heard rumors of James Cameron doing a sci fi flick again, I was excited, but the trailer just killed my interest.

I would say I am pretty amivalent about this movie, but I'm excited about adult-oriented CGI features. The general consensus seems to be that the trailer does not help this movie look good? Can anyone give me some specific reasons why? I'm not asking from a specific point of view about the movie, I'm just curious as to why certain trailers make people want to see movies and others turn people off of the very film they advertise. So what is it about the avatar trailer that makes you not want to see it?

I'm skeptical because of the CGI also, but I'd probably watch a 3 hour movie about grass growing is James Cameron did it.

I just trust the man.

I also think that it may be one of those things where if you're in a movie theater and this environment is completely filling and surrounding you, it may read a lot better and seem more believable. I'm totally ready to be completely wrong, though.

Also this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a47YvdYYYLQ

Sorry its so crappy, its all ONTD can do for now.
