Looks like the game's really come a long way since the last time they released any footage. I'm glad to see they've been busy making it more and more awesome.

I'm rather put-off by the huge leap in graphics, tons of new gameplay features, and knowing Blizzard, the plot will most likely suck ass.

Indeed, I was a little bit dissappointed when I first learned that it was going to be rendered in 3D, however, I think they've kept the style of the game intact, without losing detail like in Warcraft 3. I still think it looks great

also when did you ever play Starcraft for the plot  Roll Eyes

Also I can't wait to play this fucking game. I was a little iffy about some of the graphics in screenshots, but in the videos everything looks so damn smooth and pretty.

As far as gameplay goes, looks like theres a lot more micromanaging, which I approve of - I'd rather be managing all my troops mid battle rather than just hurling hundreds of hydralisks/zealots/goliaths at one another.

Agreed - While that was fun and definitely an inherent part of the original Starcraft, towards the end of my playing of the game I found myself relatively bored - money maps or not - by the game, and the race to pump out more troops than your opponent. Looking at the zerg gameplay You still got the feel of the horde of the zerg without the retarded amounts of unit control. Its also nice to see that Cannons aren't nearly as powerful as they were before - particularly with units that do increased damage to buildings, so the game becomes less about turtling up.

every time I watch these I get excited as fuck.  The roaches seem somehow overpowered, but as a zerg player, i'm alright with that :)

It was really cool to see how resource management came into play.  I registered for beta testing, here's hopin' i get in!

Actually not this time around (though I do know a guy who knows a guy who works for blizzard who may be able to pull a few strings and get me in to beta that way, but it may be a long shot)

Anyone can register for open beta - wether or not you get chosen is a different question - usually its based off of the type of computer you own or whatever. Here's what to do :

Go to battle.net  -- battle.net is completely new! -- Register for a battle.net account, and then add the games you own to your account by entering in the Serial Numbers on the respective games, (yes, this means you must OWN LEGITIMATELY a blizzard game) and once you've done that, you download a little app that identifies your hardware/video card and sends it along to blizzard for their database, and if your computer is average or weird enough or just right they'll contact you if you got into the beta.

To clarify, I have ONLY registered for beta testing, I am not a beta-tester yet.

Angered by news that Blizzard has decided to leave LAN multiplayer out of StarCraft II, fans are doing what fans have done in such situations since the dawn of time - signing a letter.

the image size restrictions on kotaku suck so here's the links to the original images:

Exciting things I want to find out about:

Zerg: What is a BROOD LORD? Shit sounds awesome. Also curious about the corruptor - is it a separate unit apart from the mutalisk, or simply a mutalisk evolution? Same goes for the Brood Lord  ... perhaps its all in the same line, for example:

Mutalisk > Corruptor > Brood Lord

Also its nice to see that lurkers cannot be gotten until mid to late game. Also cool that zerg defensive buildings can move.

However, I will definitely be missing the old-school queen and the Defiler. The Infestor seems cool or whatever, and we've yet to see what kind of spells it employs, so who knows.

Protoss: well i'm not too too excited here. I'm REALLY gonna miss regular Archons, Arbiters, and Reavers. The collossus looks like a cool unit but from what I've seen in the videos it doesn't feel like it carries the weight that the reaver did.  Perhaps there are abilities that it has that we haven't seen.

Terran: Wondering what the 'Hellion' is, missing firebats, golaiths  Undecided  -> I suppose the 'Viking' is the goliath replacement, and being as how it can transform to be air or ground, its pretty good ... i just hope the voice acting is as good as the goliath's was :)  Looks like the terrans in general are going to have pretty good air support

I think Hellions are the Firebat replacements. They're used in that battle report with the Terrans. I forget exactly what they do, but they seem like an improvement overall.

Also looks like they still have regular Archons. Check the bottom left out of the Templar Archives.

In the battle reports it mind-controlled ("parasited") enemy units and spawned 6 infested marines. Those are the only two I've noticed, so hopefully there is at least one more. Also the fact that it can move while burrowed is quite interesting.

Oh right, they were like Vultures with flamethrowers ... forgot about that. As for the archon I was confused once more, for some reason I thought that the new archon didn't have the same amount of kick-ass-ness as the original one, and was more like the dark archon

this game looks retarded
Well gee eamonn, after 4 years of art college one would think you'd be able to come up with a better crit than that  Roll Eyes

I never really used infested marines, and from previous videos I've seen it would appear that infested marines worked more like marines, and didn't explode -- banelings took the suicide spot.

I should say specifically I'll miss the parasite and ensnare abilities of the queen, and the dark swarm of the defilers.

interesting.  I'll be curious to see the corruptor, as it must be some kind of air-to-air creature; otherwise the zerg will be at a slight disadvantage in the air.

that website you linked to, ethan ... interesting stuff there!

OF course, wether the information on there is true or not is questionable, but it is surely interesting, to say the least.

For example, the Zerg Queen seems to have an ability called 'Razor Plauge' which seems to combine dark swarm with plauge - a movable cloud that hurts enemy units inside it. It can also spawn 'creep tumors' which are like creep colonies somewhat.

Furthermore, the 'Overseer' which is an evolved Overlord can cast the equivalent of a Dark Swarm, as well as make the aforementioned changelings.

Also looks like the ultralisk does tons of damage to buildings.

The Infestor has the 'plauge' ability the defiler once had. cool.

The Corruptor is your basic air-to-air, with the added bonus where if a unit dies within 4 seconds of taking a hit from a corruptor, the unit becomes a 'turret' that is immobile. Weird.

"The Marauder was introduced as a "replacement" for the Firebat. It performs very differently though, attacking with Concussion Missiles that have a slowing effect."

The raven looks interesting, a sort of offensive science vessel. Cool!
