Cougar Town is based on my hometown, Sarasota, FL, so I don't think I could watch it without being horribly skeeved by how accurate it was.

Cougar Town is based on my hometown, Sarasota, FL, so I don't think I could watch it without being horribly skeeved by how accurate it was. I don't know, I feel like Cougar Town is actually a terrible name for the show, and that maybe people stay away from it because they think it's going to be like, Courtney Cox hunting down hot younger boys? But it's not that AT ALL. There is like, two episodes at the very beginning where Courtney Cox's character hooks up with a younger guy but that is the only cougar-ish activity in the whole series (except this one side character who is barely in it.) For the most part it's just hilarious things happening between Courtney Cox and her friend (Dr. Cox's wife from Scrubs!), her friend's husband and Courtney Cox's ex husband and their next door neighbor, and then this awesome hilarious trashy girl who works for Courtney Cox. Oh and her hilarious and awkward son. IT IS SUCH A GOOD SHOW YOU SHOULD TOTALLY WATCH IT!

Dr. Cox's wife from scrubs: "it's called underwear because you're supposed to wear it under your skirt"
Hilariously trashy girl: "Pass."

I also have been watching Modern Family, and while it is not as awesome as Cougar Town, its pretty good. Although I was cracking up pretty good while watching it last night and Benjamin gave me this look like "Ugh." and I was like "What? You don't think this is hilarious?" And he was like "Eh, I mean, its pretty funny. It's okay I guess." So I think maybe I am turning into a stupid fat TV loving American. Who knows?

I would recommend showing him the Christmas episode.
edit: also, last night's episode, while funny, was fairly maudlin and scattered and unrepresentative of the series at its best.

I've seen maybe four episodes? I've liked what I've seen! They had a rerun I think on earlier, at 8, where Benjamin Bratt plays the fat hispanic kid's real father (I don't know any of their names yet) and then Al from Married with Children falls in man-love with him and is later disappointed by him. That one was pretty funny, and Benjamin Bratt with a heavy fake Columbian accent? Yeah, pretty hot.
On the whole, I feel like the show is pretty predictable, but not necessarily in a bad way. It's funny, and doesn't come off as too anything in any direction (not to lesson-y, not to sentimental, not to absurdest), and the characters are JUST ridiculous enough to be entertaining and likable. It's got a good blend of stuff and a good balance, it should keep it up! Also, I just love the gay couple. They are probably my favourites.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - I really like where TV comedy has gone in the past number of years. I thank Arrested Development for paving the way for this delightful turn, and The Office for making it mainstream and cool (even if The Office totally sucks now, which I will always point out that I totally called it). Shows like Community, Modern Family, and Cougar Town are exactly the right blend of ridiculous, hilarious, awkward, and just a little bit sweet to hit just the right spot on my funny bone. I'm glad America at large finally agrees.
Oh also, can't remember if I mentioned it before, but FX is also airing a new show, Archer. It's a cartoon comedy, by Matt Thompson and Adam Reed, who did a shit ton of stuff for Adult Swim back when it still pwned the hardest, most impressively Space Ghost Coast to Coast and Sealab 2021. It has a really impressive cast, including H. Jon Benjamin (Coach from Home Movies), Judy Greer (crazy secretary chick from Arrested Development), Jessica Walter (Lucille, also AR), and Aisha Tyler, who you may not recognize but she played Ross's hot black girlfriend named Charlie in one of the later seasons of friends, and is funny as shit apparently. If all that doesn't entice you into watching it, then let me tell you that it is incredibly well done. It's like the best stuff from AS brought back to life, and it doesn't make you feel like an incredible faggoty nerd for watching it because it's on FX and hey, lots of people watch FX! Its really good and if ever liked anything that was EVER aired on Adult Swim, you'll like this. Plus, you don't have to stay up late to watch it, it's on at like 10, so yay for old farts like me who fall asleep at 11 when they are trying to watch the final episode of NipTuck last night, d'oh!

I will never, EVER watch the Jersey Shore, not even ironically.
Also, How I Met Your Mother is pretty good.

My summer television schedule pretty much consists if True Blood and Louie, a new show starring/written/directed by the comedian Louis C.K. on FX. It's fucking hilarious.

Louie is great. My summer beyond that is mostly just Futurama and the Colony. There's just not that much else on worth watching so I've got some time on my hands

I REALLY need to catch up on that. Also, TV comes back this month! I've missed it so much! Although Benjamin and I might be cancelling the cable pretty soon...thank god for illegally streaming shit, amiright?
So what will everyone be watching this fall? I'm looking forward for the return of Community on NBC, Cougar Town and Modern Family on ABC (as well as V probably mid-season in January or February), and hopefully Archer, probably also mid-season.

Not too too interested in most of the things that are on, with the exception of community, so chances are this fall will be me catching up on all the shows that need my attention, namely Deadwood, True Blood, Pillars of the Earth, the Tudors, and The Sopranos.

Oh I forgot about my new obsession, How I Met Your Mother. SUCH a good show.
Don't know how up-to-date you are on True Blood, Bryce, but this season was by far the best yet. If you're still somewhere in the second season, stick with it, it's totally worth it!

did anyone else watch the premiere of boardwalk empire ? that hbo thing about prohibition with martin scorsese and steve buscemi ? i watched last night and was very impressed ! i think it's gonna be a really good show. i usually watch ridiculous crap television, so it's way different from my norm. gangsters, murderers, crime, but set in 20s atlantic city so there's also like carnival music and shots of the boardwalk. it's mysterious in a way that's not lame or crazy obvious, good acting, costumes and sets, steve buscemi is amazing, and you wanna keep watching. there was a lot of hype building up to this show, and i think it's cause it's actually good. hooray for television that doesn't suck !

sadly I have not seen a single episode of true blood yet - as I downgraded my netflix to just one disc out at a time I've been getting through non-instant view/hulu stuff much more slowly

Did the NBC line-up last night. Community was great, of course, 30 Rock equally great. The Office was....watchable. Barely. That new show, Outsourced or whatever....well I'll be surprised if it lasts the season.
