why? has a new album out that's pretty good ! (they are the people that do the presidents song ethan.) when they sing and talk about stuff, i believe them. it's like they let their lives into their music, not just an idea about their life or part of it or something, so their stuff gets better as they grow up and see more. their songs are longer now too, which i like. they can stand in their own realities longer, question that less i guess. the album opens with a killer line, they say they wear the clothes of their time, but in the next breath they're talking about everything underneath (history, belief structures, where you come from, etc) and i can't talk about that enough ! so into it. it's like letting your music be more than a personna, and being a musician by that definition requires more than like wearing a v-neck t-shirt and having scene hair and using hip keywords. a little bit detached from all that, and distance is cool. anyway yeah, probably obsessed..

Why did nobody alert me this had happened? There are few things I love more than the collective Wainwright family and Pink Floyd! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_Bk6ML7kuI

So, Paul Simon has a son named Harper, and he has a new album out. It's actually pretty good; if you like Paul's music, it's definitely worth checking out. I had high hopes for the Beatles' sons, but so far they haven't panned out (although, Sean Lennon does play drums on Harper Simon's album). This is the best "son of a classic rock legend" album I've heard. Check him out on myspace guys!!! http://www.myspace.com/harpersimon

So, I'm getting into Dan Reeder, who I found out about through Weeds. If you watch the show, you may recognize this song:

Here's another good one:

Dan makes all of his own instruments himself. For some reason I think that's really cool.

-new vampire weekend (along with the rest of the world ! so good ) Yep. -bear in heaven (i love them love them lately ! solid singing + electronic-y beats, wouldn't say it's electronic music is just has some of the sounds, found them by accident and surprisingly good) Heh, I found this by accident too and bought this song off of iTunes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGS7vNLhxNA-grizzly bear, vektimist (dan said to buy this, glad i listened) Vampire Weekend is way more accessible so this album has been dethroned as my album I listen to in its entirety over and over again. My new shit: Super hyped up guys from Blur make a cover album. Everyone proceeds to hate/love them for it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhzsBxMaXssAnimal Collective EP! It's called Fall Be Kind. Here's a live version of my favorite song from the work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2Nw5Hr-JYc

I'm currently re-discovering my love for Air, and am listening to a bunch of live albums, like Coachella Valley and a BBC show.

haha, that song is probably my favorite. the album is pretty solid, starts off good and stays strong throughout. i put it on when i make things and that usually works out pretty well next i want new jay-z and bat for lashes and st. vincent did you guys hear about the new charlotte gainsbourg album ? it's called irm, and she hardcore collaborated on it with beck. i have mixed feelings about it... i mean i really like what i hear so far, but i also heard that beck wrote like everything and she just sings. so it's less of a collaboration and more beck being awesome ? haha i dunno, watch i say this now but i'll probably end up getting it somehow and really liking it

recently i bought some new stuff that i'm actually excited about ! i read last week on amazon about new broken social scene- they finallyyyyy decided to condense their band on this new record ! and as soon as i read that i was like, sold. i've always liked broken scene, always thought they had a lot of potential... but the 18+ people they had in their band before really got on my nerves. so much of their sound was just. not essential. so yeah ! the ideas are still there for them, and the collaborations they come up with are still really interesting and fresh. it's just so much more direct now, and i loveeeee it. it's such a relief. so yeah i got that and i got new ok go ! and that album is really fun and really cool. i've been keeping my eye on ok go ever since they made that awesome treadmill video ? but i never felt compelled to buy their stuff for some reason. but then i heard a song on like 104.5 or something. from that moment on i was like well, i need this, and i'm really glad i bought it. the sound is big and bold and kind of funky and kind of dancey, but there's a lightness to it too somehow ? it reminds me of the treadmill thing. contemporary art, without question, but not taking itself super, super seriously. and reference like that sits with me the best i think. it becomes more about play and experimentation at that point, and less about like THE HISTORY OF MUSIC!!!! or something. anyway yeah i listened to it this morning on my way to work, and for 40 minutes on a monday morning, i didn't hate my life at all. and it was awesome next i want new lcd soundsystem and also the national are coming out with a new album, and i probably want that too.

So I've been enjoying Galactic, this New Orleans funk-hip hop band Mits turned me on. I really like the way their big band roots bleed into the lastest album they released. Here's one of their songs, Boe Money: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8C2-x2aXxA

My life kinda revolves around Galactic and Stanton Moore's solo projects right now, but I also picked up a CD of Jorge Drexler, an Uruguayan musician best known for his work on the soundtrack of "The Motorcycle Diaries." this florence and the machine....tell me more. It's singing and clapping? But good, like early Regina Spektor when she was just singing weird shit and banging drumsticks on wooden chairs?

similar to regina spektor ! sort of. but a stronger voice and infinitely more creative. she's a little all over the place, in a good way, so the clapping and singing and random sounds weave in and out. you know those 30 second song clips you can listen to on amazon ? i listened to a couple of those and i was like, sold. worth checking out at least ! see if you like it dude

The new CD is a little bit different ... more trance-y I suppose. I'm still sort of finding songs on the new CD that I might like. The real gold is their first CD, and from there the gateway songs are ... Black Panther Untrust Us1991CrimewaveI love it. Its like Modern Electronic and Videogame Synths. Great for driving and working out

Eames, some friends and I saw Florence at the house of blues a few months back. Seriously one of the best concerts I've ever been to in my life. Shes great on CD...SHES AMAZING LIVE. My favorite song of hers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EIeUlvHAiMI may have mentioned this, but I've been obsessed with Patrick Wolf lately. And especially this song, so when I saw he did it with Florence at a concert a while back I just about pissed myself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M16DzP0sfvAEnjoy, loves. And, ohyeah, I got into Jeff Buckley 15 years late. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wH6EnXByx_c
