As many of the employees at Firaxis games were once BigHuge employees, this news has been the buzz at the company for a while, and was particularly loud today.  Based off of what I've heard about the management and production leads, I can't say I'm too surprised, though it is definitely not a good thing that a competitor so close is going down.

an update I forgot to post long ago:

BigHuge was eventually bought out by Todd McFarlane's 38 Studios, which resulted in the laying-off of (ironically) 38% of current employees, which included those employed for less than two years, all interns and contracted employees.  Resulted in about 49 lay-offs, which sucks because that meant all of the people we MICA people graduated with who ended up working there got the axe.

The projects they were working on also got the axe and the company's remaining assets are probably being cannibalized to work for one of 38's projects.
