Tuesday this game came out

Me and my coworkers have been playing this virtually nonstop in between work.  It is everything we could have wanted for a new Street Fighter Game - it has seemingly taken just about every good part of the Turbo series, as well as a couple bits of Third Strike and added one or two new things that make it a wonderfully cohesive fighting game.  It is simple enough that you don't get lost in intricacies but complex enough that experience clearly makes a difference. Furthermore, the characters seem balanced enough that there isn't a 'cheap' character that is entirely unbalanced.

I played the new soul caliber for a while, and while it was quite fun, it seemed to have too many 'cheap' moves, something that Street Fighter 4 lacks.  If you like fighting games at all, particularly if you're a fan of the street fighter series, I highly recommend this new game. Additionally, I recommend that, if you can, you get this for the PS3 as the controllers are far superior to the 360's, though you could probably buy a controller with a better D-pad, or an arcade stick.

My character of choice is M. Bison.

Anyone like the Street Fighter games?

I don't have the cash for this game at the moment and it's KILLING me. Normally my fighting game of choice is Virtual Fighter but I was born and raised on the Jersey Shore playing Street Fighter II. BORN and RAISED. So naturally I want to play this game.

I've always been an E. Honda guy.

Maybe that mohawked bitch replaced her? Chun Li was usually my character of choice. That leg kick thing was sexy and effective.

Chun Li is also my favorite, but Cammy had a sweet thong and boots. Mohawk chick had nothing on her.

She could fuck your shit up.

Oh well, Atleast we still have the best.

I can't stop google searching characters now.
I am also quite excited that Blanka is still around. He was also one of my favorite childhood characters.

New characters are:
1. Abel
2. Crimson Viper
3. El Fuerte
4. Rufus
5. Seth - Final boss who's cheap and overpowered and banned from tournaments - he's basically like Algol from Soul Caliber 4

Returning characters are:
6. Akuma
7. Balrog
8. Blanka
9. Cammy White
10. Chun-Li
11. Dan Hibiki
12. Dhalsim
13. E. Honda
14. Fei Long
15. Gen
16. Gouken AKA Sheng Long
17. Guile
18. Ken Masters
19. M. Bison
20. Rose (from Street Fighter Alpha)
21. Ryu
22. Sagat
23. Sakura Kasugano
24. Vega
25. Zangief

characters we don't see:
Dee Jay
T. Hawk

Top Tier Characters (in order):
1. Sagat
2. M. Bison
3. Ryu
4. Zangeif
5. Balrog

Chun Li is mid tier but she has some a quick seemingly unblockable EX attack or two. Leg kicks were nerfed a little bit but I think you can cancel them into combos.  She's got a real painful Ultra though, which can win you a match if you pull it off when the opponent is beneath 45%

I'm really excited to try out El Fuerte too.

Yeah I'm on PS3 but I have never used the online network for anything-ever. When I get the game though I'll definitely hope online for you to destroy me.

I am sad that I have no gaming systems, because I loved Street Fighter as a kid.  My favorite character was Blanka, although Vega was pretty darn cool, too.

I'm nickmo2, I have been on through my house's sketchy wireless network to look at some of the DLC. Never tried playing anything through the network though so it will be an experience.

Are you playing with a controller or a joystick? Everyone seems to be demanding that everyone else plays with a joystick but they are so fucking expensive I don't think I could rationalize it to myself.

The one my office mate uses is like 50 bucks, which as far as regular system controllers go, is about midrange price, and it seems to be just fine for him. I on the other hand am using the PS3 controller, which works for me, though for the charge characters I love to use, it makes ultra and super moves more difficult.  I've tried out Kenji's stick and while I can see its advantages, I've gotten used to the playstation (evinced by my callused thumb) and probably won't drop the money for a stick unless I really want to be a nerd.

A joystick is probably nice but not exactly required to be an excellent player.

As far as networks are concerned, right now the servers are apparently pretty bad - i usually have to wait a while to get matched with someone, however its cool, because you can set it so that you join a game if you can connect while playing in arcade mode - so you could be unlocking other characters, and then it'll bring you to an online match, and once your done doing that, it'll take you back to arcade play where you can continue unlocking stuff.  I've unlocked all the characters but Seth (the boss) but I'm not going to unlock him, not only because its a pain, but also because he's cheap as shit, like necrid from soul caliber 2

I've been reading about some hardware problems with with MadCatz $70 joystick, which is also the joystick most retailers are promoting the heaviest. If I did get a stick it would probably be a 150 dollar tournament stick and at the point... well... what the fuck is wrong with me?

Street Fighter II: Champion's Edition was one of my games growing up, although the series kinda pissed me off during the Alpha phase. If I had a PS3 or a 360 I'd probably pick this up. My character of choice is Ken.

This is the one Kenji uses, and as a nationally ranked Guilty Gear player, I trust his judgement. The only thing I dislike about this stick is how the ball itself spins fluidly instead of remaining static.  There's nothing stopping you from goin all out and droppin a hundred or whatever.

mits- What about the alpha series bugged you?

As far as graphics go, the game has achieved mixed reactions, at least within our company. Some critisize the art direction because the textures for the models are more painted, in order to achieve a sort of stylistic painterly feel, which, in my opinion, looks pretty interesting in the side-scrolling way, but when it zooms into the character at the end of a round, it tends to look a little shitty - particularly on guile.  Additionally, the faces have been sculpted in that cartoony stylistic fashion, which sometimes looks good, as with Blanka and Bison, but with others like Ryu and Guile its a little bit distracting.  Most people, I think, were expecting a level of graphics at the level of Soul Caliber 4, which this game doesn't quite measure up to. Particularly bad are the animals in the background - our interns are making better animals then the ones in the background, and the animation is simply horrendous.

However, the lack in quality in some areas of graphics is easily made up by the game play, which in my opinion is far superior to Soul Caliber. Where a button masher in SC4 has just as much a chance of beating an experienced player, the button masher in SF4 will have circles run around him.  This is particularly aggravating to some of my coworkers who like the buttonmashing games where there is a significant amount of grace as far as executing the moves.  The moves in SF4 are mostly simple, but usually have to be executed smoothly and exactly.

I'm hoping though, now that the series has been resurrected, that they'll make another, perhaps with the same moves and game design, but with drawn animation to match that of Street Fighter 3 Third Strike - which was a beautifully animated street fighter, and with the quality of Street Fighter 2 HD Remix.   Additionally, Ive heard that Capcom again owns the rights to Marvel Characters, so we might be in for another installation of Marvel vs. Capcom. This game is definitely a cash cow that Capcom's not going to ignore as far as profits go - consider that when it was released in japan, every single copy available for sale was bought in the first day. Most definitely we are in for an expansion, as the ~very least~, it would be bad business not to.

Yeah OK, so I've definitely decided to get the game and an arcade stick once I get my tax return.
