Crap. I should have realized this and used numbers not currently associated with other jokes. CRAP.

I thought the joke was that the equals sign had a hairlip.

Great comics, though! When will City Paper be publishing the comics?

All comics submitted are supposed to be put on their website and the winners will be in the August 14th issue.

Also, I was going for arrogant with the equals sign because he always tells things what they are. Hairlip works too though.

So, I didn't get in  Colbert.

Here's the whole shehbang: http://www.citypaper.net/comicsissue/2008_flickr.php

And here are the winners: http://www.citypaper.net/articles/2008/08/14/comics-in-print

I'm trying not to be a sore loser here, and there were many comics better than mine submitted (I had no idea the guy who did Wondermark lived in the area, that's pretty cool), but I'm very surprised at the ones they did pick to win. Most of them... just aren't funny. I guess they were looking for more edge to their comics and my work just didn't cater to that.

Oh well.

Hehehe farts.

But seriously, Nick, the random spattering of those I read totally sucked. Yours were way better. This is obviously a fucking scam.

Yeah, the comics they chose were pretty terrible. What the hell were they thinking?

I'm sorry the city paper is apparently full of unfunny retards.

The comments from some of the other cartoonists are pretty lmao.

Also, if nothing else, through this ordeal I have discovered a comic called Limestone Cowboys which is entirely and only about a stalagmite and stalactite.

Yeah, I'm more upset about the winners being really bad than about not winning myself. It sort of makes me feel like I've been duped. Like if someone told me there was treasure buried under a tree and I spent three days digging only to find hundreds of hairless, eyeless mole-people who then tore me to shreds with their long blunt claws.

That's how I feel.

I know the guy who did "Carpets on the Ceiling." He went to Penn State, and he's a gigantic douchebag. I've seen his comics before, and I always thought they were god-awful. To see them posted on the winners page is even more disheartening. I saw he got a "shout-out" in the comments at the end though...

Sorry to hear about this, Elmo. Do you plan to do it again in the future?

I'm always drawing comics so if another contest comes along I'll gladly participate.
