As with the other topic, I mean villains or antagonists who are complex and interesting, not simply 'there to be the enemy'  only this time for TV series. The interesting thing about some characters for TV series is that they aren't always enemies at various points.

1. Gaius Baltar (James Callis) - Battlestar Galactica
2. The Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis) - The X-Files
3. Ben Linus (Michael Emerson) - Lost
4. Rudy (Christian Camargo) - Dexter
5. Sylar (Zachary Quinto) - Heroes

Runner-ups
6. Sgt. James Doakes (Erik King) - Dexter
7. Number Six (Tricia Helfer) - Battlestar Galactica
8. Hands of Blue - Firefly (sure, only one episode, but DAMN did I want to know more)
9. Eric Cartman - South Park
10. Leoben Conoy (Callum Keith Rennie) - Battlestar Galactica

1. Dwight Schrute, the Office.  I think we could argue whether or not Dwight is an antagonist; after all, the show doesn't really have a clearly defined protagonist.  I think Jim is the closest thing to a protagonist, so Dwight would be a clear antagonist in that case.
2. Celia Hodes, Weeds.
3. Sgt. Doakes, Dexter.  Doakes is (or was) a great character because he's the only one who's on to Dexter, but you sort of hate him for that, but really... he's just really good at his job.  It's hard to hate a cop who is trying to nab a serial killer.
4. The Janitor, Scrubs.  I've been disappointed with the last few seasons of Scrubs.  I think all the characters have become far too over-the-top, including Janitor.  But, in the earlier seasons, his dealings with JD were some of the best moments on the show.
5. Guillermo, Weeds.

I think Jim is the closest thing to a protagonist, but in that case I also I like Michael as the antagonist. However, I like him a little to much to think of him as "the bad guy" he's more just the well-meaning idiot who tries a little too hard. Or way too hard. Same thing with Dwight. But that's why that show is great...there are no clearly defined roles. And really Jim and Pam are total jerks to Dwight most of the time! (Except in that one episode when Dwight had just gotten dumped by Angela and he was competing against the computer and beat it and Pam saw how sad he was so she IM'd as the computer that he was the superior being. That was so nice!)

Okay wasnt gonna do a list but here's one anyway:
5. Roman - Big Love
4. Scorpius - Farscape
3. The Monarch - The Venture Bros
2. Weyoun - Star Trek: Deep Space 9
1. Gul Dukat - Star Trek: Deep Space 9

And just for fun, my favourite antagonists turned protagonists - Garek and Damar, both from DS9. I kind of love Cardassians...and the Dominion. Yeah I'm a nerd, and what?

I don't think Michael can be considered an antagonist to Jim.  His goal is to become friends with Jim  Sure, he annoys him along the way, but I don't know if being annoying in the pursuit of being friendly could be considered antagonizing.  Dwight, on the other hand, actually wants to cause Jim some sort of harm.  I guess Ryan would be an even clearer antagonist, but I don't really like his character.

I guess I don't just mean an antagonist to Jim...but more the antagonist of the show. To the entire Office perhaps? But like I said, I'm reluctant to label anyone I love as much as I love Michael as an antagonist, and I still think the reason that show is so great is everybody kind of sucks in their own likeable ways.

Fair enough.  As a side note, though, I think Michael is one of my least favorite characters on the show, which kind of sucks, because the whole show seems to revolve around him.

Aw I love Michael. He is so terrible and horrible but he really does mean so well. He just...has no idea the proper way to go about doing or getting the things he wants. He's so sad and pathetic and you just KNOW he was picked on so badly when he was a little kid. I just wanna give him big hugs and then smack some sense into him.

We especially know this because when he was a kid he was on a children's show on TV and he told a puppet that when he grows up he wants to have lots of kids so that he will finally have people who won't say no to being his friends  unsmith

I don't know why I don't like Michael.  There are plenty of other characters on that show who are awkward and don't know how to relate to others (e.g. Creed, Kevin, Dwight, etc.), and I love all of them.  Michael's awkwardness just isn't funny to me.

Okay, I've been watching a lot of the wire lately so a bunch of these are going to be from there. However, let me preface this as saying that on the wire there are no antagonists, only people.

1. Marlo Stanfield - The Wire
2. Chris Partlow and Snoop - The Wire (they are partners and I am counting them as one)
3. Newman - Seinfeld
4. Phantom Limb - Venture Bothers
5. Stringer Bell - The Wire

Runners up:
1. Baron Unterbheit - Venture Brothers
2. Professor Ogden Wernstrom
3. Mom - Futurama
4. Bill Rawls - The Wire (yes, he is an antagonist)
5. Spiros Vondas - The Wire
6. The Greek - The Wire
7. Mr. Selatcia - Metalocalypse (voiced by Mark Hamill!)
