I just downloaded Team Fortress 2 off of Steam and figures that it would work on my computer because the game is basically a cartoon with lots of bullets. Little did I know that I basically have a pretend graphics card: 945GM Intel Mobile Chipset garbage. Does anyone have any advice for me as my previous working version of Counter Strike: Source stopped working because I had to reformat my partition a while back? I'd rather not buy a new computer right now.

Your only option is to try and force CS:S into DX8 mode. If you right click the game in Steam there should be an option like runtime options or commandline options or some crap like that (I'd check but I don't have Steam installed and I'm formatting tomorrow) It'll bring up a box with a blank prompt that'll say something like "You can set options for when the game starts" or something like that.

Add these " dxlevel81 +mat_forcehardwaresync 0 " without the quotes (hence the spacing. That might clear it up.

Also if your computer's not super old / a laptop you might be able to get away with just buying a new video card.

Have you got a problem with that?

(Double post to bump)

How'd this work out Alex? I know I could've been clearer, the Launch Options are under Preferences for each individual game for one.

As for what the modification's actually doing, it's basically turning Source 2.0's features off (The Source engine included with Episode Two and TF2 is a more advanced version with different rendering abilities) Hopefully it should clear up your problem. It'll also make things look a bit crummy I'm afraid.

Sorry I didn't get back all that quickly, you know that Thanksgiving thing. Well what you posted worked perfectly for CS:S, but it doesn't seem to work for TF2 because I don't think anything will. Thanks for your help as it at least allows me to enjoy some CS:S.
