My windows install dumped again. This is the 3rd time in the last month or so, is there anything I can do to prevent this short of buying a new computer, which I am seriously considered.

I've had XP go for a year without a reinstall, so it's really odd that it keeps falling apart so quickly for you. Without any more info on gut instinct I'd say your hard drive is going bad, which is considerably cheaper than a new computer

Have you got a problem with that?

Same here. Run some HD utilities (some machines even have it built into the BIOS) and see if you get any flags. A new HD install is a cakewalk, as long as you're careful.
