In five words, this song is an "elaborate tribute to progressive rock." Despite being a parody, it's extremely well written and the creators of this song have fooled many people I know in to thinking Spinal Tap are a real band.

Stone Henge - Spinal Tap

Opening with the cliche intro lyrics accompanied by eerie drum and guitar, it's obvious the intentions of this song are extremely silly. Playing on the concept phase of many prog and metal bands of the seventies and eighties, Spinal Tap describes the ancient ways of the Druids whils some how also inlcluding a love story.

Quote
And you my love, won't you take my hand
We'll go back in time to that mystic land
Where the dew drops cry and the cats meow
I will take you there
I will show you how

"...and cats meow" gets me every time. Putting the lyrics aside, there are many redeming qualities  in this song. The transfers between the story monolgues and the chorus are quite epic and remind me of real prog and metal bands who tried to do this for a living and wern't as good at it. The rediculous synths over the crunchy guitars and driving bass are a perfect snapshot of what Spinal Tap were parodying throughout the movie.

The entire Spinal Tap CD (because oh yes, they released one) is exactly like this.  You find yourself caught between laughing at the overwhelming silliness of their parodies and actually enjoying the songs.  I love it so much.

I own the Break Like The Wind album. It really is hella-good. Especially the title track with the mega-solo at the end.

Stone Henge is great, especially when they play it in the movie. I think my favorite Spinal Tap song is "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight," though.
