Tom Waits - Dead and Lovely
She was a middle class girl She was in over her head She thought she would Stand up in the deep end
He had a bullet proof smile He had money to burn She thought she had the moon In her pocket
But now she's dead She's so dead Forever dead and lovely now
I've always been told to Remember this... Don't let a fool kiss you Never marry for love
He was hard to impress He knew everyone's secrets He wore her on his arm Just like jewelry
He never gave but he got He kept her on a leash He's not the kind of wheel You fall asleep at
But now she's dead Forever dead Forever dead and lovely now
Come closer, look deeper You've fallen fast Just like a plane on a Stormy sea
She made up someone to be She made up somewhere to be from This is one business in the World where that's no Problem at all
Everything that is left They will only plow under Soon every one you know Will be gone And now she's dead Forever dead Forever dead and lovely now
Now she's dead Forever dead Forever dead and lovely now
I've always been told to Remember this... Don't let a kiss fool you Never marry for love
Everything has its price [2x] What's more romantic Then dying in the moonlight?
Now they're all watching the sea What's lost can never be broken Her roots were sweet But they were so shallow
And now she's dead Forever dead Forever dead and lovely now
And now she's dead Forever dead And she's so dead and lovely now
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
I heard there was a secret chord That David played and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music do you Well it goes like this: The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah...
Well your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty and the moonlight overthrough ya She tied you to her kitchen chair She broke your throne and she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Baby I've been here before I've seen this room and I've walked this floor I used to live alone before I knew ya I've seen your flag on the marble arch But love is not a victory march It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
There was a time when you let me know What's really going on below But now you never show that to me do ya But remember when I moved in you And the holy dove was moving too And every breath we drew was Hallelujah
Well, maybe there's a God above But all I've ever learned from love Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya It's not a cry that you hear at night It's not somebody who's seen the light It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah...

Hahaha! She's dead!
I can't listen to William Shatner's "That's Me Trying" without having to take a bit of a breather before I can continue.

You Are My Sunshine
The other night dear, as I lay sleeping I dreamed I held you in my arms When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken So I hung my head and I cried.
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine You make me happy when skies are gray You'll never know dear, how much I love you Please don't take my sunshine away
I'll always love you and make you happy, If you will only say the same. But if you leave me and love another, You'll regret it all some day:
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine You make me happy when skies are gray You'll never know dear, how much I love you Please don't take my sunshine away
You told me once, dear, you really loved me And no one else could come between. But not you've left me and love another; You have shattered all of my dreams:
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine You make me happy when skies are gray You'll never know dear, how much I love you Please don't take my sunshine away
In all my dreams, dear, you seem to leave me When I awake my poor heart pains. Oh please come back, dear, and make me happy I'll forgive, I'll take all the blame.
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine You make me happy when skies are gray You'll never know dear, how much I love you Please don't take my sunshine away
My mom used to sing the refrain to me as a lullaby when I was a little girl, so I guess that's one reason it makes me a little teary-eyed. But mainly its just because its a really fucking sad song.

Hank Williams- I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry
Hear the lonesome whiperwill He sounds too blue to fly The midnight train is whining low I’m so lonesome I could cry
I’ve never seen a night so long When time goes crawling by The moon just went behind a cloud To hide it’s face and cry
Did you ever see a robin weep When leaves begin to die That means he’s lost the will to live I’m so lonesome I could cry
The silence of a falling star Lights up a purple sky And as I wonder where you are I’m so lonesome I could cry

David Bowie - Five Years
Pushing thru the market square, so many mothers sighing News had just come over, we had five years left to cry in News guy wept and told us, earth was really dying Cried so much his face was wet, then I knew he was not lying I heard telephones, opera house, favourite melodies I saw boys, toys electric irons and T.V.'s My brain hurt like a warehouse, it had no room to spare I had to cram so many things to store everything in there And all the fat-skinny people, and all the tall-short people And all the nobody people, and all the somebody people I never thought I'd need so many people
A girl my age went off her head, hit some tiny children If the black hadn't a-pulled her off, I think she would have killed them A soldier with a broken arm, fixed his stare to the wheels of a Cadillac A cop knelt and kissed the feet of a priest, and a queer threw up at the sight of that I think I saw you in an ice-cream parlour, drinking milk shakes cold and long Smiling and waving and looking so fine, don't think you knew you were in this song And it was cold and it rained so I felt like an actor And I thought of Ma and I wanted to get back there Your face, your race, the way that you talk I kiss you, you're beautiful, I want you to walk
We've got five years, stuck on my eyes We've got five years, what a surprise We've got five years, my brain hurts a lot We've got five years, that's all we've got

BareNaked Ladies - Tonight Is The Night I Fell Asleep At The Wheel
Driving home to be with you The highway's dividing, the city's in view As usual, I'm almost on time You're the last thing that's on my mind I wish I could tell you the way that I feel But tonight is the night I fell asleep at the wheel
No commotion, no screaming brakes Most of it's over before I awake From the ceiling, my coffee cup drips While out my window, the horizon does flips The worst part was hitting the ground - Not the feeling so much as the sound Can't help but wonder if all this is real Cause tonight is the night I fell asleep at the wheel
Rubberneck traffic and passersby And Slow Motion Walter the fire engine guy Stand around with their mouths open wide I heard some idiot ask if someone's inside With the Jaws of Life they tried and they tried Nobody here can know how I feel Cause tonight is the night I fell asleep at the wheel
I guess it's over now Cause I've never seen so much Never seen so much, never seen so much Never seen so much, never seen so much I guess it's over now Cause I've never seen so much Never seen so much, never seen so much Never seen so much, never seen so much So much blood
In all the confusion, there's something serene I'm just a posthumous part of the scene Now I'm floating above looking in As the radio blares and wheels spin I can see my face slump with a grin And you...you're the last thing on my mind You're the last thing on my mind You're the last thing on my mind You're the last thing on my mind

Ooo, good choice with "Five Years." I wish I'd thought of it.
Neil Young - "My My, Hey Hey"
My my, hey hey Rock and roll is here to stay It’s better to burn out Than to fade away My my, hey hey.
Out of the blue and into the black They give you this, but you pay for that And once you’re gone, you can never come back When you’re out of the blue and into the black.
The king is gone but he’s not forgotten This is the story of a johnny rotten It’s better to burn out than it is to rust The king is gone but he’s not forgotten.
Hey hey, my my Rock and roll can never die There’s more to the picture Than meets the eye. Hey hey, my my.

"Effigy," by CCR
Last night I saw a fire burning on The palace lawn. O’er the land The humble subjects watched in mixed Emotion.
Chorus: Who is burnin’? Who is burnin’? Effigy. Who is burnin’? Who is burnin’? Effigy.
Last night I saw the fire spreadin’ to The palace door. Silent majority Weren’t keepin’ quiet Anymore.
Chorus
Last night I saw the fire spreadin’ to The country side. In the mornin’ Few were left to watch The ashes die.
Chorus
Why? Why? Why? Effigy.
