I count Aesop Rock among my favorite musical artists, yet I have to admit that I mostly listen to Labor Days. I've listened to his other works a few times, but they are always eclipsed by Labor Days' awesomeness.

Today however, I listened to Bazooka Tooth and Appleseed EP. I noticed that a lot of the songs on these momentarily lapse into songs from Labor Days. I'm guessing this is intentional, but is it possible that I downloaded bad copies?

Apple Seed is kind of a rarity tape. Mits, I think I gave it to you, and Kelly gave it to me, who got it from her brother. Getting the CD in hard form is quite the ordeal I understand. So Apple Seed was the album that got everyone's attention.

Bazooka Tooth defintiely pays homage to Labor Days, but doesn't live up to the same pedigre. A lot of people consider Bazooka Tooth a sophmore slump for Aesop. I agree with this opinion, but as I understand it, he departed with the production skills of Blockhead (If you're still reading this post, then you should download Blockhead's Music By Cavelight right now). In doing this, it seems he was trying to prove that he could perform without Blockhead (who was involved from Aesop early on) and that he could produce music just as well. In my opinion, he failed. Bazooka Tooth is a nice album, but it's definitely missing something.

A fine, fine album.

I see what you mean about Bazooka Tooth. The songs seem to drag on a bit more than those on Labor Days. I'm listening to "Easy" right now and sadly, waiting for it to end. Kudos to Blockhead for his instrumental-making abilities.

Apple Seed is one of my favorites. Also get Daylight and Float if you don't have them.

Yeah, I have those two. They're both great.

Fast Cars, Danger, Fire and Knives isn't too bad. I'd say it's a step up from Bazooka Tooth.
