Having someone in the car with you who listens to Top 40 radiostations has many, many drawbacks. Many. But then there are the few perks.
Crusing along with Lauren sometime after school one day a song came on one of her radio stations. It sounded eerily familiar. Today, you the reader are in store for a treat! Two songs!
Sugar on My Tongue - Talking HeadsSugar (Gimme Some) - Trick Daddy ft. Ludacris, Cee-LoThe comparsion between the two of these songs is hilarious. Being the Talking Heads fan that I am, I always liked this song for its simple bitter sweet lyric and melody. It was always stuck in my head from the moment I heard it back in seventh grade. It wasn't my favorite, but I liked it. The shoddy recording was very in character of the Talking Heads at the time. There's not much to the song. The type of acoustic guitar was memorable to me (I'm not sure what kind it is). And of course David Byrne's ranting and raving is like no other.
Now we move to the more recent recording. When I first heard this song on the radio, I freaked. Of course they butchered it completely. It's your stock Top 40 song for 90% of the song.
Sweetie you look so incredible
So delicious and so damn edible
All I need is some honey or syrup
With a lil' butter to rub down all your curves
Stereotypical hip-hop electronic beats, while only loosly sticking to the original acoustic strumming in the Talking Heads version. Obviously the chorus gives this song away as a chopped up cover. A zombie if you will. I have no idea how this happened, or why it would happen, but it did. Pretty damn funny.
