Stills from movie files

My camera can record video segments, which transfer to my computer as .avi files. Are there any programs that I could download which would allow me to take stills from these movies?

Are you on a PC? If you are, hit the Print Screen button on your keyboard. Some video programs block it, but it might work.
Macs have a handy thing where you can take a picture of a segment of the screen.
