What does everyone use? Please indicate your OS, and any issues you've had with your client. I use Transmission in OS X mostly, as it's very lightweight and is accepted by most torrent sites. However, it is lacking a lot of features. Selective downloading is not included, and for a very good reason (a Kids in the Hall skit), I am now downloading Azereus.

I use uTorrent, another "lightweight" client in XP. It works well, aside from the fact that I am firewalled in the dorms so I get inconsistent speeds. Selective downloading is an available function.

I use uTorrent and couldn't imagine ever using anything else. I've yet to find something it can't do that Azu, can and it's ridiculously lightweight, coming in at less than half a meg and lacking any dependencies. It's definitely my client of choice.
I honestly can't think of any issues I've ever had with it either, if something comes out for Windows that's any more perfect I'd be very surprised.

Yeah, being firewalled in the dorms blows. Is there any way around this? Or would that be selective downloading?

No selective downloading is choosing a specific part of a torrent to donwload instead of the entire thing.
I'm not sure how to fix your dorm problem.

Here's a solution: move out.
But in all seriousness, Rifty mentioned encoding programs that allow you to bypass download/upload limits. As for the firewalls, if you know what kind of router your dorm uses, you can forward a port that is specifically used by your torrent client. Personally, I'd rather not fuck with Penn State's internet provider, so I'm sticking with inconsistent speeds for now.

Yeah forcing my way around firewalls isn't anything I've had to do so I don't have any pointers on doing it except setting the ports uTorrent uses to 21 or 80 (It's under Network somewhere) That might work, or it might not, 80's the port used for web browsing, whether or not you can piggy torrents on it is a fifty fifty.

Utorrent has encryption built in to get around firewalls, including the one at Pitt. Utorrent is my client of choice on both windows and Kubuntu, you can't beat it. I've used KTorrent, Azureus, BitComet, BitLord, and BitTyrant. Nothing stands up to the performance of Utorrent.

I have nothing to say relevant to OSX, but I've been using uTorrent for a while now, and it's great. The only problem I've had is the aforementioned inconsistent speeds while firewalled at school.

I wish this existed for OS X. Alas, it does not. It's replacement is Transmission. Transmission is down and dirty and to the point. It's missing a few features that other, more established clients have, like selective downloading within a torrent file. If you're looking for all the bells and whistles, I recommend Azereus, but then you'll be dealing with a Java based client, which means definite speed sacrfice (on the application level, your downloads will go just as fast) .

I'd definitely go with Azu, Manco. The performance hit'll be noticeable but I can't imagine surviving for very long without selective downloading or encryption or a queuing system for batch torrenting (Good for getting episodes of TV shows). I have heard though that there is a uTorrent port in development for OSX, not sure how far along it is but it's something to keep an eye on.

Is that still more efficient than Azu in Java? If so, that's kinda sad.
