Mastodon To Make Big-Scren Debut In 'Aqua Teen Hunger Force'
Mtv.com reports that MASTODON will actually be junk food in a matter of months (dramatically speaking, anyway). In February, the band will make its big-screen debut alongside the Cartoon Network's Meatwad, Frylock and Master Shake in "Aqua Teen Hunger Force: The Movie".

"I get this random call from an Atlanta phone number, and I answer and it's Dave Willis," drummer Bränn Dailor said, referring to the man who voices Meatwad and wrote and directed the film with Matt Maiellaro. "I was freaked out because that's one of my favorite shows of all time. We totally geek out on that stuff, and I've bought the DVDs for the guys in TOOL and THE MARS VOLTA as gifts."

MASTODON wrote and recorded a track for the movie, but they weren't responsible for its lyrics — those were provided by Willis and include the line, "Leave your babies outside/ We'll run over them after the show."

"It's the opening song, and we're going to be animated as movie snacks," in the style of the animated musical advertisements that played before the beginning of the main attraction decades ago, Dailor said. "It's the 'Let's all go to the lobby' song, but it's a thrash song."

I've never really watched Aqua Teen, but heh, perhaps this is a good time to  start doing so.

What planet do you live on Mits?!  How have you never watched Aqua Teen!  That's absurd!  You'd probably love it.  As a fan of the show, this whole "getting a metal band to be in the movie" doesn't come as much surprise, since more than once the focus of an episode has been some metal icon.  Once it was Foreigner (though I guess its debatable if they're metal), once Ted Nugent (he shot flaming arrows, it was awesome), and there were a whole bunch of other instances.  I guess the guys who do the show are just big metal freaks, like you!  You should definitely check it out.

As far as a movie, I'm a little concerned.  Just because the show works so well as a 15 minute blurb of nonsense, I have trouble imaginging that stretched out to an hour and a half or two hours.  I mean, I figure I won't turn my back on it quite yet, since its the same two guys doing all the writing as it is for the show itself, not to mention the show's creators, and I have to imagine they wouldn't do something they deemed bad for their own show.  Did the article happen to mention a possible release date?

This excites me. However, I don't listen to Mastodon. I have some reservations about the idea, as do most people but I'd like to think positive.

However, I'd like to bitch real quick and see if anyone agrees. So, here goes. I hate this whole adult swim craze. I've been watching adult swim since it first popped up, sometime in middle school or early highschool if I remember correctly. As soon as I hit college suddenly Aqua Teen and Family Guy are all the rage. I just want to scream shut the fuck up and choke the next stupid frat bastard who quotes one of these shows. Sure it's cool that people like it but please stop fucking ruining it by quoting at the most retarded moments. Am I alone, or is anyone else irritated by this whole thing?

Absolutely, but that's what people do, ruin the things you love.

Side note, weird thing happened last night.  I flipped on AS (I haven't watched in goddamned near forever) and fuckin would you believe they'd added Peewee's Playhouse to their line up?  I'm not entirely sure how I feel about that...I watched a few minutes and mostly just felt uncomfortable.  But Peewee Herman does that to me for some reason, and I'm pretty sure its totally unrelated to his whole masturbating deal.

AS in general is very cookie cutter, merchindise related production animation and comedy.   All their best shows are the one's they haven't gotten their grubby little hands into during the making ("all" meaning "two": Futurama and Venture Bros.)   Aqua Team Hunger Force movie?  How the hell can they make a movie about a show that is 15 minutes long?   15 minutes long because they    run out of ideas after that point.   Ew.

The Pee Wee thing, yeah, I love Pee Wee so really I'm not complaining about that but Cartoon Network as a whole has been slowing incorporating live action things into their programming (a couple of months ago they aired the Tim Burton Batman movie and Dumb and Dumber as well as episodes of Saved By The Bell during AS).

I've only caught bits and pieces of ATHF. I saw the episode where these aliens or something were talking about going to the "Fargate," which I can only assume is a play on "Stargate." I chuckled, at best.

I don't see why people go apeshit over the show though. I had a friend who went over PSU's bandwidth limit because he downloaded so many episodes. I've never understood a lot of the whole Adult Swim styles of humor, ala Sealab and Space Ghost. Don't get me wrong, I love non-sequitor humor, but I believe that even that needs a certain degree of structure to it.
