I saw the teaser trailer for that like, well it feels like a year or something ago.  At the time, I thought it looked worth it just for the neat cell-shaded animation over live action type dealy goin on.  After seeing the full preview, I still feel that's probably the only real reason to see it.  Whatever. I'll probably catch it in theatres reguardless.

I remember seeing this trailer when I saw constantine sometime in 1992. What the fuck has taken them so long?

A few of these animators came to my school some weeks back and showed us this trailer along with Waking Life. I didn't realize it'd been kicking around for so long, though. They didn't mention why it'd taken so long, just that they hated animating this realistically, and this would be the last time they did it.

reasons it is taking forever:

a. it is being rotoscoped in this horrible, time consuming way
b. the animators they are using were just pulled off the street, hundreds of them
c. none of which know the software and must learn it
d. none of which are in communication with any others, which requires massive amounts of re-editing and re-animating as they all do it in different styles

Personally I think it is pretty, but I can't help but think it is a gimmick. I hated Waking Life.

This doesn't mean I'm not going to see it ASAP in theatres. Pretty pretty rotoscoping.

i only looked into it because i found the website of one of the animators they used and she was super-excited about it finally being released.

but i dunno. i never saw waking life and never wanted to, and i don't really like the style this is done in. anyone else a reader of philip k. dick?

The animators that gave the talk said they were all encouraged to keep this movie in the same basic realistic style, unlike Waking Life where they were encouraged to be individuals and all over the place and to do whatever they wanted. They sounded none too happy about it, and I think that'll probably take a lot of interesting elements out of it, but whatever. I'll probably still see it.
