Dozens of distros? one of the best parts of linux! Choice is awesome... But yeah, it seems to be at the point where if you have problems, you have problems, but if you don't, its no big deal. I have none of the issues that you speak of...also, there's a new read/write driver for NTFS that just came out last week, should fix things for you... Everything has always Just Worked (tm apple computer) for me with both my Macs and with Linux. Windows always gives me hassles.
